One of my favorite places to shoot is the beach. You’ve seen it a million times on here (okay, probably not that much, but quite a bit). I do mini sessions there. I stop by there just to clear my head. And often, I go with camera in tow just to take pictures.
Something I had been wanting to do for a long time was venture to the beach and catch a sunrise. After shooting a wedding this past summer, and speaking with a guest and fellow photographer about her experiences with it this past summer, I decided that I needed to do it before the cold weather set in.
I finally got the chance to at the end of October.
I had been dealing with insomnia, and finding that even on the weekend I was waking up at 5 AM. I had no idea why. But this particular morning, I decided to do something about it. I knew I had additional sessions later morning, but since I was awake, it was time to pack my gear, load on the layers (since it was only about 30 degrees) and head to the beach.
When I arrived, the skies were just starting to brighten. I was alone, except for the occasional jogger that was running the beach. But I started snapping away. I continue to snap as more people filtered onto the beach with their morning coffee. I took the occasional pause to grab a photo with my iPhone (instant gratification and all), and a moment to just sit back and enjoy what I was witnessing.
So now, I’m happy to finally share these images with you. I wanted to wait until the cold days of winter so that we could look at these and feel happy. And to know that the sun will always rise another day.
Some of these images are available for purchase in the Etsy Shop. Feel free to take a peek around, and if you don’t see what you’re looking for, please let me know. I’d be happy to create a custom order.
