So here we go. Introducing this week’s print of the week….Bleeding Hearts.
Growing up, my parents had an incredible flower garden on the side of our house. It separated our front yard from the backyard, and in the summer when the plants were in full bloom, it created a natural barrier and fence. Each year, my father tended to it, day and night, and every year it was more amazing than the next. Their were some flowers I remember vividly, like the peonies which bloomed every year right around my birthday (which they brought with them to their new home) and the bleeding hearts plant. I was always mesmerized by the bleeding hearts. I thought they were one of the coolest plants in the garden. I loved all of the plants, but there was something special about the bleeding hearts.
After I bought my first camera in 2011, my family’s garden because my muse. I loved to venture out there to take photos of the various flowers and plants. Looking back, I’m glad I did because now I have some wonderful images of the garden I knew so well. I would spend hours out there, focusing on different angles, lighting and making sure to capture every beautiful detail. When I received a macro lens for my birthday, my obsession took a new turn. I loved getting even more up close and personal with the garden. And the bleeding hearts were no exception. What I discovered was that these dainty little flowers were even more beautiful when they were captured up close. You could see every line, every crevice and every detail.
But what I really love about this particular image? I love the way the pink stands out on the green of the other plants, and I really like the teeny little web you can see at the very top. Bleeding hearts make me smile every time I see them. And instantly bring me back to that wonderful garden.
